The Second Letter of Peter A Quick Summary 1: An equal opportunity to live well by power and by light Everyone is equal in faith because, by God's grace, we all have the knowledge we need to live a good and Godly life. Since we have what we need to live well, it makes sense to try to improve until we achieve the full value of these gifts rather than to forget about them. The understanding we have is not based on mere stories, but on the light of eyewitness accounts of what God has done and on prophetic messages driven by the power of the Holy Spirit. 2: False teachers [This chapter is essentially the same of the book of Jude.] False teachers have a destructive message; eventually, its destructiveness will return back to destroy them. False teachers are really of no more account than animals who have no words. Even though these teachers use words, there is no sense in them. They use insults to cover their lack of understanding; they identify physical desire with pleasure; they speak of freedom as they weave a trap for themselves and anyone else they can bring with them. 3: The true teaching is different Our knowledge of God's actions incites us to live lives of purity. Outsiders may not perceive any of this, and we ourselves don't have the knowledge to predict God's timetable, but our knowledge of the past gives us confidence that any appearance of inaction on God's part will prove to be misleading. Because of this different perspective, we live our lives hopefully and eagerly, trying to make the best use of whatever time God gives us. We are careful and watchful, so as not to be carried away from what we know is true but instead develop to our full potential.
